Sugar disappeared from utility stores across the country, depleting all stocks within days:
Lahore (Urdu Point Newspaper Latest. 06 October 2023) Once again a sugar crisis has arisen at utility stores, sugar has disappeared from utility stores across the country, in a few days all the stock of sugar has been exhausted. According to the details, the people who have paid billions of rupees extra to buy very expensive sugar for the past several months have now been forced to buy expensive sugar again by giving them the hope of cheap sugar.
According to media reports, after several months, the availability of sugar at the utility store was limited to just a few days, once again a sugar crisis occurred at the utility stores. According to sources, the stock of sugar at the utility stores is almost exhausted and fresh procurement could not be done yet. Sources said that the citizens have been deprived of subsidized cheap sugar at utility stores while the sugar crisis may be prolonged due to lack of immediate purchase.
Explaining the cause of the sugar crisis, sources said that due to procurement difficulties, there was shortage of sugar, utility stores recently canceled 2 tenders due to high bids and in some tenders, utility stores did not receive bids at all. Sources of utility stores claimed that efforts are underway to purchase sugar, an open tender for 40,000 tons of sugar will be opened next week.
According to the sources, in the recent days there was availability of sugar at the utility stores for about a month, before that there was a sugar crisis at the utility stores for several months due to which the price of sugar also increased across the country. Now after utility stores run out of sugar stock, people will again have to buy expensive sugar from the open market. Citizens are forced to buy sugar from the open market at an average rate of Rs 180 per kg.
