Director General CAA Khaqan Murtaza said in this regard that the Civil Aviation Authority has planned an open sky policy for Skardu Airport to promote tourism. Khaqan Murtaza said that the Saudi authorities have shown deep interest in direct flights to Skardu, many foreign airlines want to start direct flights to Skardu.
DGCAA said that refueling facility of planes has been provided at Skardu Airport. Steps are also being taken to increase oil storage for aircraft in the northern regions.
In response to a question, he said that special fuel is being arranged for planes at Skardu Airport when the temperature is negative in winter.
He said that the flights coming to Skardu will also offer views of the world's highest peaks and picturesque lakes. DGCAA said that Skardu Airport located at an altitude of 7,000 feet is considered to be one of the highest and most beautiful airports in the world. The capacity is 8 thousand 5 hundred feet.
There is a dire need for high-quality hotels and accommodation for tourists in the northern regions. If a few hundred foreign tourists come at a time, there is no hotel available for them in Skardu. Steps have been taken to make Skardu airport world class, they want to make Skardu and northern areas a center of tourism even in winter. He said that the Saudi aviation officials who visited Pakistan in the past few days expressed pleasant surprise after seeing the beauty of the northern regions.
It should be noted that in the previous month of August, PIA's first international flight PK 234 landed in Skardu from Dubai. After the flight landed, Skardu was given the status of an international airport. With the launch of these flights, national airline PIA achieved another honor and introduced Skardu to the entire world. On an international flight, tourists will be able to enjoy the breathtaking views of Jannat Nazir Gilgit-Baltistan. During the flight, tourists will also get to see beautiful views of the snow-capped Himalayan mountains including K-To and Nanga Parbat. PIA's weekly flights from Dubai to Skardu are playing an important role in promoting tourism in the northern regions of Pakistan.
